International cooperation at Karshi State University

Cooperation with foreign higher education institutions is becoming important in order to solve the problems of today's higher education, to bring the quality of education to the next level and to keep up with the latest trends in the scientific field. In the globalized world, effective international cooperation relations are even more important in increasing the educational and scientific potential and competitiveness of any higher education institution. In addition, international cooperation in higher education can be recognized as the main driver of innovation.

Karshi State University has signed Memorandum of Understanding and Bilateral Agreements with more than 70 foreign HEIs and established effective cooperation relations. On the basis of international cooperation, sending university professors to foreign higher education institutions for short-term internships, attracting foreign professors and teachers to training sessions, holding scientific conferences in cooperation, and publishing scientific articles have been launched. Within the framework of these agreements, the following works were carried out at the university during the past year 2022 alone:

- 18 professors went to foreign HEIs for short-term internships of up to 1 month;

- 22 professors were involved in lectures from foreign HEIs;

- 8 international scientific conferences were held in cooperation with foreign HEIs. More than 30 leading scientists, professors and experts from countries such as Italy, Russia and Belarus participated in the 5-day international scientific conference on "Information technologies and mathematical modeling", along with higher education institutions and scientific research institutes of Uzbekistan.

In addition, the university has established cooperation relations with the KOICA organization of the South Korean embassy in Uzbekistan, the embassies of France and the USA.

Since 2010, activities have been carried out within the framework of cooperation with the "Volunteer Program" of the KOICA organization of the Embassy of South Korea. According to the volunteer program, 14 volunteers have worked in the university so far. Project work on the establishment of the "Korean Language Center" was completed at the cost of $10,000. With the help of the KOICA organization, the Korean language room in the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​was renovated with new modern information technologies at a cost of $13,000. In May 2014, a computer center was established in the amount of $20,000.

In addition, in March 2020, a $38,000 Montessori center was established for preschool students based on the project "Improving the effectiveness of the preschool education system based on the Montessori methodology" by Lee Yongil. 3 work books were published. About 100 teachers and students of preschool education participated in the Montessori project.

From October 12, 2022 to March 9, 2023, Mathis Marcoux, a volunteer of the University of Clermont Auvergne, worked under the French "Service Civique" project at the Department of French Language and Literature of Karshi State University. During his volunteer career, he taught students French language course, such as the development of oral speech, familiarization with the culture and history of the country where the language is being studied, and preparation for exams that determine the level of foreign language proficiency.

Since 2020, Karshi State University has been participating in the "English Access Microscholarship Program" international project of the US State Department for children of low-income, large families and families in need of social protection. From November 1, 2022, the new stage of this project for 01.11.2022 - 01.12.2024 has started.

Furthermore, on September 5 of this year, the US State Department's international project "Reinforcing English Language Competence in Karshi State University" to further strengthen the English language skills of students and teachers has started. The goal of the project is to develop the English language proficiency of students and teachers who are non-English speakers at the university and to improve the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) level of students of the Faculty of English Philology. The project period is 01.11.2022 - 1.12.2023.

Since 2021, Karshi State University has been cooperating with 5 higher education institutions of European countries within the framework of the international credit mobility program of the Erasmus+ project of the European Union. Within the framework of this program, cooperation agreements have been reached with 4 HEIs of Europe, University of Jaen (Spain), University of Constantine the Philosopher (Slovakia), University of Zelena Gora (Poland), Etvosz Lorand University (Hungary) and University of Castilla la Mancha (Italy). Within these agreements:

- In November 2021, the main doctoral student of the Department of English Language and Literature, D.Musaeva participated in the training program at the University of Jaen, Spain;

- From April 5 to May 4, 2022, D. Musaeva and V. Keldiyorova, PhD students of the Department of English Language and Literature, were on an ERASMUS+ (Erasmus+ KA107 project) scientific internship at Konstantin University of Philosophy in Nitra, Slovakia;

- On May 2-15, 2022, N. Azizova, the dean of the Faculty of International Education Programs, and D. Ochilova, the senior teacher of the Department of Foreign Language and Literature, returned from participating in the teaching/training course organized at the Konstantin University of Philosophy in Slovakia. 

Since 2010, KarSU has been exporting education services to citizens of foreign countries. In the current academic year, 27 students from Turkmenistan have successfully completed the university's undergraduate courses. On July 15, 2022, they were awarded a diploma. Currently, 17 foreign citizens are studying at the university.

Moreover, joint educational programs for 6 bachelor's degrees and 4 master's specialties have been launched together with foreign partner universities, in which a total of 259 bachelors and masters are studying.

These partnerships have a positive impact on the university's competitiveness and, in turn, on the university's ranking. Karshi State University was ranked 30th among 92 HEIs in the national ranking. In addition, Karshi State University received the status of "reporter" to enter the international ranking of THE World University Rankings - 2023. At the end of 2022, according to the results of the international rating agency UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, Karshi State University was ranked 978 with 2710 points among higher education institutions from more than 100 countries of the world.
